Squash - Victory Butternut - Early (Cucurbita moschata) Non GMO & Organic Butternut Gramma Squash Vegetable
This variety matures much earlier and is an excellent choice for shorter season areas.
Fruits are medium sized at around 18 cm or 7 in long, and weigh in at about 1.2 kg or 2.5 lbs each. Flesh is fine - tastes sweet, moist and nutty; richly flavoured and not highly fibrous. Avoid overhead watering to delay arrival of powdery mildew in late summer.

- Growing season begins when all danger of frost is passed, and the soil is warm, about 60 to 65 degrees F. (15-18 C.) to a 4 in (10 cm.) depth. Butternut squash plants are extremely tender. The seedlings will freeze with the slightest frost, and seeds will only germinate in warm soil.
- Like most other vine growing vegetables, butternut squash cultivation begins with a hill. Draw your garden soil into a hill about 18 inches (46 cm.) high. This allows the soil to heat around the seeds and roots. Your soil should be well amended and well fertilized since butternut squash plants are heavy feeders.
- Plant five or six seeds per hill about 4 in(10 cm.) apart and 1 in (2.5 cm.) deep. Keep the soil moist, but not soggy.
- Germinates: about 10 days
- When seedlings are about 6 in (15 cm.) high, thin out the weakest leaving three plants per hill.
- OR if your season is short, it’s best to start your seeds indoors about 6 weeks before the last frost. Plant seeds about 4 in deep and harden off the seedlings before transplanting outdoors, after all risk of frost has passed. See above.
