Height
Tivoli is the first bush spaghetti squash; like other bush squash varieties this one also produces short vines after the initial fruit sets. Plants produce 15 cm (6") long, robust oval fruits with creamy flesh and a very flavorful taste. Plants can be spaced quite close together for higher productivity in a limited space. excellent choice for space restricted gardens, raised beds and large containers.
  • Full sun
  • Matures in 90 days
  • Starting squash seeds indoors: plant seeds 1.5 in deep; this method is recommended if you have a short growing season however, transplanting seedlings outdoors instead of planting seeds sets plant growth back by a few weeks as they dislike root disturbance; best to grow in pots at beginning and transplant the entire pot.
  • OR plant seeds directly into garden beds a week or two after all risk of frost has passed.
  • Hills and mounds: build mounds of soil mixed with compost 3 to 6 ft wide and 8 to 10 in high. Plant 3 to 4 spaghetti squash in the top of the mound, spacing them several in apart. Mulch the mound and the surrounding area  to retain moisture, limit weeds, and keep the developing squash off the ground.
  • Cages: great method for gardeners who don’t want to lose precious garden area to squash plants! Use home made cylinders of chicken wire fencing 3 to 5 ft tall and around 4 ft in diameter. In the fall, fill the cylinders with layers of fall leaves, manure, and whatever other organic matter you can find. In spring, sow 3 or 4 squash seeds in each squash circle in the organic materials that have settled a bit over the winter. When growing spaghetti squash in squash 'cages', the vines will grow up out of the top of the cylinder and down its sides.
  • Vertical: erect a trellis or sturdy garden fencing/structure and train the tendrils to grow vertically to reduce the land space
  • Requires fertile soil with fairly even moisture throughout the growing season
  • Seed Count: 20
