A very hardy squash and difficult to find anymore!

Heirloom variety averaging about 12-15 pounds. Hopi orange is a large reddish-orange winter squash type that is an excellent keeper.  The squash weigh between 4.5-6.8 kg (10-15 lbs) when fully mature. The flesh is yellow to orange and possesses an excellent flavor.   They are an excellent variety for baking, roasting, soups and pies.

This rare Hopi Pale Grey Squash is a top choice for culinary connoisseurs and squash fanatics. Appreciated for its storage capacity, delightful sweet taste and large size, this squash makes a big impression, yielding hardy 10 lb. fruits with light grey skin and a thick outer layer.

  • Soil: well worked, rich, loose, well-drained soil.
  • Direct sow seeds outdoors from late May to mid-June. Sow 3 or 6 seeds 12 mm-  2.5 cm (½-1”) deep into hills that are 1.8 m (6') apart. Thin seedlings to 2 per hill.

  • Harvest: winter squash can be harvested when the fruits have turned a deep, solid color and the rind is hard. Harvest the main part of the crop in September or October, before heavy frosts hit your area. Cut squash from the vines carefully, leaving two inches of stem attached if possible.
