Huacatay, also known as Wacatay, Chinchilla,Chiquilla,Chilca,Cuico, Suico, or Anisillo. Other names include Muster John Henry, Southern Marigold, Khakibos, Stinking Roger, Wild Marigold, and Black Mint. Huacatay is a tall upright marigold plant from the genus Tagetes, with small flowers, native to the southern half of South America. Since Spanish colonization, it has been introduced around the world, and has become naturalized in Europe, Asia, Australasia, North America, and Africa.
Huacatay is a fast-growing highly fragrant culinary annual herb native to the Andes. It's related to marigold but has a strong anise-like scent. Huacatay is a source of valuable antioxidants and has anti-bacterial, antiviral, antispasmodic, antiinflammatory, and carminative properties. A flavourful tea made from fresh or dried leaves and / or flowers helps fight colds, respiratory inflammations, and asthma.

- Direct sow after last frost when soil is warm.
- Sow every 2 to 4in, 1/8 to 1/4 in deep, and thin to 12 to 24in per plant.
- Moist soil - water from bottom and keep water in bottoM. Don’t let the tray dry out.
- Water regularly until germination.
- Plant is resistant to deer, groundhogs, and insect pests, so can be grown as a perimeter plant outside of your fences.
