Full description

Castor Bean is a bold, fast-growing ornamental plant prized for its dramatic tropical appearance and large, glossy, star-shaped leaves. The “R” variety features rich reddish to deep burgundy foliage, adding striking contrast and height to garden beds and landscapes. Plants can reach 6–10 feet tall in a single season, making them an excellent focal point or backdrop in ornamental gardens.

Spiky, ornamental seed pods follow the flowers, adding further visual interest. Despite its beauty, every part of the plant—especially the seeds—is highly toxic. This plant should be handled with care and kept away from children and pets. It is grown strictly for ornamental purposes.

Medicinal properties

Ricinus communis is the source of castor oil, which has been traditionally used as a laxative and in topical applications. However, raw seeds contain the highly toxic compound ricin and are extremely poisonous if ingested. Seeds must never be consumed, and medicinal use should only involve properly processed products. This plant is not safe for home herbal use.
