Flower - Apricot Cosmos (Cosmos bipinnatus) Non-GMO - Organically Grown

Annual

Height: 2-4 feet (60-120 cm)

Bloom Time: Summer to fall (June to September)

Flower Color: Soft apricot, peach, and cream with a slight yellow center

Soil Requirements: Well-drained, slightly acidic to neutral soil

Light Requirements: Full sun

Growing Instructions:

1. Site Selection: Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Apricot Cosmos thrive in full sun and prefer slightly acidic to neutral soil.

2. Planting: Space plants 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) apart to allow for their spreading nature. Plant after the last frost when the soil is warm (around 60°F/15°C or higher).

3. Watering: Water regularly, especially during dry spells, but avoid over-watering, as this can lead to root rot. Allow the soil to dry slightly between waterings.

4. Mulching: Apply mulch around the base to retain moisture and control weeds, but avoid burying the stems of the plants.

5. Fertilizing: Use a balanced, all-purpose fertilizer once a month during the growing season to encourage robust growth and vibrant blooms.

Stratification (For Seed Starting):

1. Seed Stratification: Cosmos seeds do not require cold stratification and can be directly sown or started indoors.

2. Starting Indoors:

Sow seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost date. Place seeds in small pots or seed trays, lightly covering them with soil.

Keep the soil moist and place the pots in a warm location (70°F/21°C). Germination usually takes 7-14 days.

3. Direct Sowing: For direct sowing outdoors, wait until after the last frost has passed. Sprinkle seeds lightly over prepared soil and press them down gently. Keep the soil moist until germination occurs.

Maintenance:

Deadheading: Remove spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming. This will also prevent self-seeding.

Pest/Disease Resistance: Apricot Cosmos are relatively pest-free, but they can attract aphids or slugs. Control with organic insecticidal soap or by handpicking.

Note: Apricot Cosmos are perfect for adding soft, warm color to garden beds, borders, or containers. Their delicate, apricot-hued flowers are highly attractive to pollinators such as bees and butterflies, making them a great choice for a wildlife-friendly garden. These plants are easy to grow and will bloom profusely throughout the summer and fall.
