Thrives in full sun and requires at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight for best colour and strong growth.

Full Description:

Celway Purple Celosia is a bold, feathery plume variety known for its rich, vibrant purple flower spikes that rise above lush green foliage. These upright, flame-like blooms add height, texture, and dramatic colour to garden beds, borders, and floral arrangements. Highly valued as a cut flower, Celway Purple holds its colour beautifully both fresh and dried. Its uniform growth and strong stems make it a favourite for market growers and home gardeners alike. Blooming continuously through the warm season, this striking variety also attracts pollinators while tolerating heat and dry conditions exceptionally well.

Growing Information from Seed:

Start seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last frost for best results, as Celosia prefers warm soil to germinate. Sow seeds on the surface of a fine, well-draining seed-starting mix and lightly press in — do not cover, as light aids germination. Keep soil consistently warm (21–24°C) and moist but not wet. Germination typically occurs within 7–14 days. Transplant outdoors once temperatures are consistently warm and all risk of frost has passed. Space plants 20–30 cm (8–12 inches) apart in well-drained soil. Water regularly during establishment, then moderately, allowing soil to dry slightly between watering. Pinching young plants can encourage bushier growth and more blooms.

Stratification:

No stratification required.

Medicinal Properties:

Celosia argentea has been used in traditional herbal medicine in some cultures, particularly in Asia, where it has been associated with anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and eye health-supporting properties. The seeds and leaves of certain varieties have been used in herbal preparations; however, Celway Purple is primarily grown as an ornamental and is not commonly used medicinally without proper knowledge and guidance.
