Early variety having a flattened medium large shape and is white in colour.
Unlike peppery radishes, white turnips have a delicate, sweet flavor similar to baby turnips (larger turnips can be tough and woody). Natural sugars in this variety make it sweet; caramelizes perfectly when roasted-keep an eye on it and stir occasionally to prevent over-browning. Gently rub soil from non-bruised or damaged turnips and they will store well for 2 weeks in the frige, or 8 to 10 months in the freezer.
- Direct sow in March and April and again August to the beginning of October (weather permitting).
- OR sow 5mm-1cm (¼-½”) deep in rows spaced 45-60cm (18-24″) apart, and thin to 10-15cm (4-6″) apart in the row.
- Optimal soil temperature for germination: 18-21°C (66-70°F).
Seeds should sprout in 7-14 days. - When harvesting pull the whole plant out by hand or mechanically, when the roots have reached the desired size of the variety sown.
