Tarragon - French Tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus var. sativaNon-GMO - Organically Grown - Herb

Perennial

French Tarragon is a highly aromatic, perennial herb prized for its delicate anise-like flavor. Unlike Russian Tarragon, French Tarragon does not produce viable seeds and is propagated through cuttings or root division. This culinary favorite is commonly used in French cuisine, enhancing dishes like sauces, salads, and meats with its distinct licorice undertones.

Growing Instructions:

Soil: Prefers well-draining, sandy or loamy soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Avoid heavy, clay-based soils.

Light: Thrives in full sun but can tolerate partial shade.

Watering: Keep soil moderately moist but avoid overwatering. French Tarragon is drought-tolerant once established.

Spacing: Plant 18-24 inches apart to allow for good air circulation.

Fertilization: Minimal feeding is needed; a light application of compost or organic fertilizer in spring encourages growth.

Harvesting: Harvest fresh leaves throughout the growing season. For best flavor, pick before the plant flowers. Dry or freeze leaves for later use.

Stratification & Propagation:

French Tarragon does not grow from seed. To propagate:

Cuttings: Take 4-6 inch stem cuttings in spring or early summer. Remove lower leaves and place in moist potting mix. Keep in a warm, bright location until rooted.

Root Division: Divide mature plants in early spring or fall, ensuring each section has a healthy root system. Replant immediately.

This low-maintenance herb is a must-have for any kitchen garden, offering a refined flavour unmatched by other tarragon varieties.
