Rosemary is one of the most satisfying challenges, and best aromatic herbs to grow and harvest in your garden! A culinary staple used in savoury meats and baking. This standard variety of rosemary has an upright, bushy growth, with woody stems, and sticky aromatic evergreen leaves that are rich in oils that smell of pine and the sea. And looks fantastic in bloom or not it!

Rosemary is widely used as a spice when cooking-especially Mediterranean dishes;  also used for fragrance in soaps and cosmetics. Traditionally, rosemary has been used medicinally to improve memory, relieve muscle pain and used in spa treatments.

Rosemary is a rich source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds, which are thought to also help boost the immune system and improve blood circulation. Laboratory studies have shown rosemary to be rich in antioxidants, which play an important role in neutralizing harmful particles called free radicals.

Fresh rosemary sprigs will keep for several days in a plastic bag or set stems in water in the refrigerator. Keep dried leaves in an airtight container in a cool place away from light. Just before using, crush the dried leaves to release the flavour.

  • Direct seed after last frost 1 cm deep and barely cover; starting from seed is recommended.
  • OR start indoors in late winter as rosemary seeds take a long time to germinate. It is best to soak the seeds for 2 to 5 hours before sowing. A growth stimulant can be added to the water to promote germination. Because of its poor germination rate, seeds can be started indoors 7-8 weeks prior to the last frost date.
  • Sow seeds 1 cm deep in small pots and cover with soil only very lightly. Water from bottom. Germinates @20C.
  • Transplant seedlings out after all frost has passed. Keep soil moist until established.
  • Plants take a year to fully establish
  • Pruning shapes young plants, and over time supplies an abundance of fresh yield for cooking or processing.
