Cupcake Cosmos (Cosmos bipinnatus) Non-GMO – Organically Grown – Flower
Annual
Cupcake Cosmos is a stunning and unique variety of Cosmos bipinnatus with delicate, cup-shaped petals that resemble cupcake wrappers. These flowers bloom in shades of white, pink, and soft pastels, creating an airy, whimsical display in the garden. With their feathery foliage and long, sturdy stems, Cupcake Cosmos are excellent for cut flower arrangements and attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies.
Growing Instructions:
• Soil: Prefers well-draining, moderately fertile soil. Avoid overly rich soil, as this can lead to excessive foliage growth with fewer blooms.
• Light: Full sun for optimal blooming.
• Watering: Water moderately. Drought-tolerant once established but benefits from consistent moisture.
• Spacing: Plant 12–18 inches apart to allow for airflow and healthy growth.
• Support: Taller plants may require staking in windy locations.
• Bloom Time: Summer through fall, producing continuous blooms until the first frost.
• Deadheading: Regular removal of spent flowers encourages more blooms.
Stratification & Germination:
• Direct Sowing: Sow seeds directly after the last frost when soil temperatures reach at least 60°F (16°C).
• Indoor Sowing: Start seeds indoors 4–6 weeks before the last frost. Use a light, well-draining seed-starting mix.
• Temperature: Optimal germination occurs at 70–75°F (21–24°C).
• Depth: Sow seeds ¼ inch deep and lightly cover with soil.
• Moisture: Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy until germination, which occurs in 7–14 days.
• Transplanting: Once seedlings have at least two sets of true leaves and outdoor temperatures are warm, transplant them into the garden.
Seed count: 10
