Description:

Cosmos ‘Cupcake White’ is a stunning variety with delicate, pure white petals that fuse together at the base, resembling a cupcake wrapper. The blooms are large, cup-shaped, and sit atop tall, airy stems with finely cut, feathery foliage. This variety attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies, adding beauty and ecological benefits to any garden.

Growing Instructions:

Sow seeds directly outdoors after the last frost, as cosmos prefer not to be transplanted. Select a site with full sun and well-draining, moderately fertile soil. Scatter seeds lightly and cover with a thin layer of soil, about 1/8 inch (3 mm) deep. Keep soil moist until germination, which typically occurs within 7–14 days. Once seedlings are established, thin them to 12–18 inches (30–45 cm) apart to allow for proper air circulation. Water sparingly, as cosmos thrive in drier conditions and do not require rich soil or heavy feeding. Deadhead spent flowers to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season.

Stratification & Special Treatment:

No cold stratification is required. For faster germination, soak seeds in warm water for 4–6 hours before sowing. Direct sowing is recommended, but if starting indoors, plant seeds in biodegradable pots 4–6 weeks before the last frost to minimize transplant shock. Harden off seedlings before moving them outdoors.
