White Camellia (Camellia japonica) is an elegant evergreen shrub prized for its pure white blooms and glossy dark green foliage. Blooming from late winter to spring, flowers range from single to double forms, making it a classic addition to many gardens. It thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic soil enriched with organic matter. Perfect as a specimen plant, informal hedge, or foundation planting, it requires minimal pruning and offers year-round beauty.

Full Growing Information from Seed:

  • Seed Pre-Treatment: Soak seeds in hot water for 24 hours to soften the husk. Optional: soak in cool water for 24 hours before sowing.
  • Stratification: Cold stratify seeds for about 60 days to improve germination.
  • Sowing: Sow seeds ¾” deep in acidic, well-draining seed mix. Keep soil consistently moist.
  • Conditions: Bright, indirect light; avoid harsh direct sun. Ideal temperatures: 15–20 °C.
  • Germination Time: 4–12 weeks (can be variable).
  • Transplanting: Move seedlings to individual containers once true leaves appear.
  • Planting Out: Harden off seedlings, then plant in partial sun/shade in acidic soil with mulch around the base.
  • Watering & Fertilizing: Keep soil moist but not waterlogged; fertilize lightly with acid-loving plant fertilizer in spring–early autumn.
  • Other Care: Protect from frost and cold winds; potted plants may need indoor shelter in colder climates.
