• Start seeds indoors in flats; sow seeds 5 mm ( ¼ in )deep and (½”) apart; seeds should sprout in 10-16 days. Transfer to garden beds when danger of frost has passed.
• Start winter harvest leeks from March to mid-June in a humus-rich nursery bed outside, and then transplant when the soil temperature is 10-25°C (50-75°F). 
• Plant stands well through the winter and offers a high yield.
• First mentioned in 1885, and a european favorite to this day
