Zinnia elegans ‘California Giants Mix’ is a classic heirloom variety producing exceptionally large, fully double blooms in a vibrant mix of colors including red, pink, orange, yellow, purple, lavender, and white. Flowers can reach up to 12–15 cm (5–6 inches) in diameter on tall, sturdy stems, making them ideal for cutting gardens and floral arrangements. This variety is highly attractive to butterflies and pollinators and blooms continuously throughout the summer when deadheaded. Zinnias are known for their heat tolerance, ease of growth, and long-lasting blooms, making them a staple in cottage gardens and flower beds.

  • Sow seeds directly outdoors after all risk of frost has passed
  • Or start indoors 4–6 weeks before last frost
  • Sow seeds 6 mm (¼ inch) deep
  • Space plants 25–40 cm (10–16 inches) apart
  • Germination occurs in 5–10 days
  • Optimal germination temperature: 21–24°C (70–75°F)
  • Prefers well-draining, moderately fertile soil
  • Water regularly but avoid waterlogging
  • Drought tolerant once established
  • Deadhead regularly to encourage continuous blooming
  • Blooms in approximately 60–75 days from sowing
  • Excellent for cut flowers and pollinator gardens
