Traditionally, Cosmos flowers have been used in folk herbal practices for their calming and soothing properties. Growing Information From Seed:

  • Direct sow outdoors after the danger of frost has passed and soil has warmed, or start indoors 3–4 weeks before transplanting outside.
  • Plant seeds 1/4 inch deep in well-draining soil. Keep soil lightly moist during germination but avoid overwatering. Seeds typically germinate in 7–14 days.
  • Space plants approximately 12–18 inches apart to allow good airflow and healthy growth. Cosmos prefer average to poor soil and too much fertilizer may result in excessive foliage with fewer blooms.
  • Deadhead spent flowers regularly to encourage continuous blooming throughout the season. These plants are drought tolerant once established and make excellent low-maintenance garden flowers.

Stratification
No stratification required. Cosmos seeds germinate readily with warmth and moisture.
