Nettle - Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) Medicinal Heirloom Non GMO Herb
Perennial
Height: 5-8 ft
- Traditionally used as a restorative spring tonic tea that is high in iron.
- Greens can be stir fried or braised as well.
- Dry or cook nettle leaves to remove the stinging effect.
- Make a nettle tea and spray it on plants to give them a pick me up in cool spring weather.
- One of the biodynamic herbs
- Start seeds indoors if preferred; seeds are very tiny and require light for germination. Cover lightly 1/4 inch at most. When seedlings are strong enough to handle and danger of frost has passed, transplant the growing nettle greens into a prepared garden bed, spaced at least 12 inches (30 cm.) apart or direct sow in the spring, broadcast seeds and press them lightly into the soil or cover with a very thin layer of soil, only about 1/4 inch at most; plants can later be thinned to an inch apart if needed. Choose a spot that has rich, moist soil a little ways from any other herbs. Seed in the spring in rows that are an inch apart and keep the area moist.
- Prefers sun with rich, well draining soil
- Attracts beneficial insects such as ladybugs, flies and native bees and wasps.
- Seed Count: 20
