Arnica montana, is also known as wolf's bane, leopard's bane, mountain tobacco and mountain arnica, mountain snuff, and sneezewort; is native to the mountains of Siberia and Europe. Arnica is a moderately toxic European flowering plant in the daisy family Asteraceae, and is grown for its amazing and large golden yellow flowers, and its medicinal uses.
Arnica is a protected species in some countries and is becoming a rare plant, largely due to increasingly intensive agriculture. Arnica is used in many ointments and liniments to treat strains, sprains, and bruises. It is also a popular remedy for homeopaths for similar ailments. Some physicians recommended internal use for depression, dyspnea, typhoid, pneumonias, anemia, diarrhea, and cardiac weakness.
