Russian Tarragon (Artemisia dracunculoides) Non-GMO – Organically Grown - Culinary Herb

Perennial

Height 45-60cm

Description

Russian Tarragon is a robust and hardy herb with slender, green leaves and a mild, slightly peppery flavor. While less aromatic and sweet than French Tarragon, it is a versatile addition to savory dishes, salads, soups, and herbal teas. Russian Tarragon is an excellent option for gardeners looking for a low-maintenance herb that grows easily from seed. It is also a beautiful ornamental addition to herb or vegetable gardens.

Propagation

Unlike French Tarragon, Russian Tarragon produces viable seeds and is easy to grow from seed. It is a hardy perennial that thrives in a variety of climates and can grow up to 3–4 feet tall under ideal conditions.

Growing Tips

Sunlight: Full sun to partial shade.

Soil: Prefers well-drained soil with a pH of 6.0–7.0. It tolerates poorer soils better than French Tarragon.

Watering: Moderate drought tolerance; water sparingly once established. Avoid waterlogged conditions.

Hardiness Zones: Very cold-hardy and resilient.

Planting: Sow seeds directly in the garden after the last frost or start indoors 4–6 weeks before transplanting. Thin seedlings to 12–18 inches apart.

Russian Tarragon is ideal for gardeners looking for a hardy herb that thrives with little care. Though its flavor is milder, it grows vigorously and provides a steady supply of fresh herbs throughout the growing season. Perfect for teas, pickling, and seasoning lighter dishes!

Note: For a stronger anise flavour, consider planting French Tarragon, which must be propagated through cuttings.
