Moringa, often called the “Miracle Tree,” is a fast-growing tropical plant prized for its nutritious leaves and beautiful, delicate foliage. Native to parts of South Asia, moringa is now grown around the world in warm climates and can also be grown as an annual in cooler regions.

With its feathery, fern-like leaves and graceful growth habit, moringa makes an attractive addition to an edible garden, greenhouse, or container collection. In warm conditions, it can grow rapidly and produce abundant young leaves throughout the growing season.

Starting Moringa Seeds

Moringa seeds do not require cold stratification.

For best results, soak seeds in warm water for approximately 12–24 hours before planting. Sow seeds about ½–1 inch (1–2.5 cm) deep in a well-draining seed-starting mix.

Keep the soil consistently warm and lightly moist but never waterlogged. Moringa germinates best with temperatures around 70–90°F (21–32°C).

Once seedlings emerge, provide plenty of bright light or full sun. Transplant outdoors only once temperatures are reliably warm and there is no danger of frost.

Growing in Cooler Climates

Moringa is extremely sensitive to frost and cold temperatures. In cooler climates, grow it as an annual or keep it in a large container and bring it indoors before temperatures drop.

Regular pruning encourages branching and produces a bushier, more manageable plant. Harvest young leaves regularly once the plant is well established.
