3 varieties of Romaine, 2 types of Butter Crunch, 1 Iceberg and an Oak Leaf variety makes this the perfect summer salad blend. All varieties are excellent producers and plants will continue to grow after cutting.
You can succession plant this mix and simply sow more as you eat them, or plant as a 'cut and come again' crop.
- Container Planting: In warm weather, scatter lettuce mix seeds over the soil and cover seeds lightly; also water in lightly and keep soil moist until germination.
- OR Direct seed in May when the soil is warm; cover seeds lightly and water in.
- OR Start indoors 4 weeks before setting out - seeds should sprout in 7 to 15 days, depending on conditions.
- Space seedlings at 15cm.
- Hint: help seeds pre-sprout by sprinkling seeds on a damp paper towel and placing it in a plastic bag in the fridge for a few days. Transplant to pots when the root is 2.5 cm long and to garden when seedlings are strong enough to handle.
