Beautiful deep rose pink colored 3 in wide cone-shaped and starlike splayed petals makes these prairie coneflowers an excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, cottage gardens and prairie gardens.

Well known for its medicinal uses. First used by the First Nations for snakebites, wounds and bruises. Also recognized by Alfred Vogel, Swiss physiotherapist, for its ability to strengthen the immune system, acting as both an antiviral and antibacterial, especially useful against upper respiratory tract infections. It does this by preventing destruction of the bodies protective barriers and activating white blood cells.

Echinacea has also been used as a mouthwash to treat gingivitis. Active compounds found it it's flowerheads as well as roots. Roots are now grown for use in the herbal healthcare industry. It is also attractive to butterflies and birds, especially goldfinches. Drought tolerant. Blooms spring to early fall.

  • Dry to medium well drained soil.
  • Requires stratification at 30-90 days at 5°C and need light to germinate
  • Outdoors: In early autumn sow outdoors and cover very lightly. Label the area.
  • OR start seeds indoors: in autumn, surface sow seeds in pots and label the pots. Place them outdoors in an area where they will experience the snow and cold of winter. The seed will germinate in the pots in spring as the weather warms up and transplant to outdoors when large enough to handle.
