  • Member of the gourd family; the roots, fruits, seeds, stems, and peels are all used medicinally.
  • Cucumbersare a tender, warm-weather crop. Start cucumbers indoors 6 to 3 weeks before you transplant them into the garden you can super start seeds indoors: fold seeds into a dry paper towel. Soak the folded paper towel in water and place in a glass. Cover tightly with cellophane and place on a sunny window sill. After 4 days, or when they have sprouted nicely with 2.5 cm growth they are ready for planting indoors into pots or outdoors into the garden when all risk of frost has passed.
  • Pick a full sun spot with well draining soil; must be grown in full sunlight. Roots reach 36 to 48 inches deep, do not plant them where tree roots will rob them of water and nutrients. Amend soil well with aged manure or compost.
  • Direct sow seed in the garden 2 to 3 weeks after all danger of frost is past when the weather is warm and settled and night temperatures stay above 50°F (10°C). Just sprinkle some seeds over loosened soil and then cover them with another inch just to make sure they are covered. Sow groups of 2 to 3 seeds -1 1/2 feet apart and 1 inch deep with 3 feet between rows. Thin to 1 seedling per group. Cucumbers mature 55 to 65 days after sowing.
  • Cucumbers need lots of light. Cucumbers produce best when they get between eight and 10 hours of sunlight per day
  • Plant heat loving cucumbers only when weather is warm and settled and night temperatures stay above 50°F (10°C).
  • Recommend growing upwards with support such as a trellis or fence.
  • Seed Count: 10
