  4. fixes atmospheric nitrogen
  5. traps sediments and takes up nitrate pollutants

For Soil Improvement and Insect Benefits:

  • Full sun.
  • Sow seeds any time after the last frost in spring, and a month before the first frost in autumn.
  • Since alfalfa roots quickly, it doesn’t require deep planting—only about 1/2 in (1 cm.) deep. Sprinkle the seeds evenly onto the soil and cover lightly with dirt
  • Water seedlings as soon as they germinate.
  • You should begin to see sprouts within seven to ten days. Once seedlings have reached about 6 to 12 in (15-31 cm.), thin them as needed to avoid overcrowding issues.
  • Typically reaches a height of about 2 to 3 feet (0.6 to 0.9 meters) when it's mature.
  • Alfalfa produces high yields. It is also resistant to Anthracnose, aphanomyces root rot, bacterial wilt, fusarium wilt, phytophthora root rot and verticillium wilt.
