There are two main types of squash ''summer' and 'winter.'

Summer squash is harvested in the warm weather months and doesn't store as long as  Winter squash, which is usually harvested in the fall, has hard skin which allows it to keep well for months.

Waltham is an excellent heirloom variety winter squash with 9 - 10 inch creamy-yellow oval bell like shaped fruit with bright orange flesh that has a small seed cavity and a bulbous end with solid, smooth skin. A large, vigorous growing vine and heavy producer with fruits weighing on average 1.5 to 2.3 kg (3.5 to 5 lbs). Butternut's already great taste will only improve with storage! Yield: 100 lbs. per 100 foot row.
