This Rapini variety is a specialty and fast growing variety from Italy. Also known as Raab, Rabe and Broccoletti, it is a highly flavorful spring, summer, and fall vegetable and a good producer.
Rapini or broccoli rabe resemble broccoli but do not form a large head. Broccoletti forms dark green bud s around 2 in; its leaves, buds, and stems are all edible. Rapini is known for its slightly bitter taste and is particularly associated with Mediterranean cuisine. t is widely eaten in southern Italy, as well as in parts of Spain and Portugal. Quarantino is named as a 45 day variety but you can eat it's smaller succulent thinnings sooner than that. Harvesting in around 45 days this is a ideal catch crop vegetable similar to Kale with thin shoots topped by loose, small broccoli like bud clusters with a slightly sharper flavor than broccoli
- Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost.
- Germination averages 5-7 days under-cover at 65F. Seedlings transplant well but be careful not to disturb its roots as much as possible; transplant when 3 in high and when all risk of frost has passed.
- OR direct sow outdoors as the soil warms in late spring sparingly in drills.
