Full Description

Larkspur ‘Pink Queen’ is an elegant, cottage-garden favorite known for its tall, airy spires of soft to rich pink blossoms. Each stem is lined with delicately layered, butterfly-like flowers that add height, movement, and romantic color to garden beds and cut flower arrangements. This heirloom-style larkspur brings a classic old-world charm and is especially valued by florists for its long, graceful stems and excellent vase life when cut at the right stage.

Full Growing Information from Seed

  • Larkspur prefers cool conditions and does best when direct sown outdoors in early spring or fall. For indoor starting, sow seeds very early while temperatures are still cool. Press seeds lightly into the surface of a well-draining seed-starting mix and barely cover with soil, as light can aid germination.
  • Keep soil consistently moist but not soggy. Ideal germination temperatures are 10–18°C (50–65°F). Germination is often uneven and can take 10–21 days, sometimes longer.
  • Once seedlings are established, thin or transplant carefully, as larkspur dislikes root disturbance. Space plants to allow good airflow and strong stem development. Support may be needed in exposed areas as plants can reach tall heights.

Medicinal Properties:

Larkspur (Consolida ajacis) contains naturally occurring toxic alkaloids and is not safe for consumption. Historically, related Delphinium species were used in traditional folk practices externally in very limited contexts, but due to toxicity it is not used in modern herbal medicine. Its value today is strictly ornamental and ecological for pollinators.

Stratification

Yes, cold stratification recommended for best germination (2–4 weeks of moist chilling improves speed and uniformity)
