Watercress is an aquatic or semi-aquatic perennial herb rich in Vitamin A, C and E. This variety is the common cress variety, with a great fresh peppery green flavour, similar to mustard and wasabi. It can be enjoyed raw or cooked. The simplest way to prepare watercress is to toss it in a salad. Once cooked, the pepperiness diminishes and leaves a vegetable flavour that tasted delicious in soups, stews and stir fries.

Pick young leaves and for a continuous harvest by planting every three weeks. Watercress is an aquatic flowering vegetable and likes bright sun is moisture loving. this herb is found growing naturally in streams, ditches, ponds and places where there is water.

  • Direct sow seeds in spring 3 weeks prior to last frost date; broadcast over prepared area by adding very tiny seeds to a bucket with fine sand; this will help broadcast seeds evenly and you can see where they land.
  • OR start seeds indoors 3 weeks prior to the last frost; transplant seedlings outdoors when all risk of frost has passed. Plant seedlings 9-12 in apart.
