Icelandic Poppies are widely cultivated for their colorful flowers and suitability for cutting; this variety is native to arctic and northern temperate regions. Ideal for cut flower gardens, rockeries and front of borders.
Plants provide showy blossoms in late spring and early summer. Blooms are delicate papery blossoms in a mix of soft whites, yellows and orange apricot colours; flowers all season long. Great for cut flowers!
Growing Iceland poppies in a spring bed is a great way to add delicate foliage and long-lasting flowers. When planted in the right spot, the Iceland poppy plant blooms from May through to July.
- Prefers Full Sun
- Poppies dislike being moved; there are two schools of thought…direct sowing outdoors is recommended.
- Start perennial poppies outdoors in early spring on the soil surface when some chance of frost is still a possibility; start annual varieties outdoors at the same time in Zones 3-7. If you live in Zones 8-10, your best bet is to direct sow in the fall. Cover seed with 1⁄8” soil.
- OR sow seeds indoors: sow 4-6 weeks before the last frost in well draining soil and pots that you can easily remove the seedling without disturbing the roots. Cover seed lightly and provide darkness.
- Will self seed
- Attracts most beneficial pollinators
- Seed Count: 50
