Nigella sativa is a medicinal herb native to the eastern Mediterranean, northern Africa, southwest Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. • Attracts bees and other pollinators
  • Growing Instructions for Bumbleseeds Nigella Sativa (Love-in-a-Mist)

1. Best Time to Plant:

Direct sow in early spring after the last frost or late summer for a fall bloom.

In warmer climates, sow in fall for early spring blooms.

2. Location & Soil:

Prefers full sun (6+ hours of direct sunlight).

Thrives in well-draining, loamy or sandy soil.

pH: Neutral to slightly acidic (6.0–7.0).

3. Sowing Seeds:

Sow directly outdoors, as Nigella sativa does not transplant well.

Scatter seeds on the soil surface and lightly press down (do not bury deeply; a light dusting of soil is sufficient).

Space seeds 6–8 inches apart.

4. Watering:

Keep soil moist but not waterlogged during germination (7–14 days).

Once established, water moderately—Nigella is drought-tolerant but prefers consistent moisture.

5. Growing Conditions:

Height: 12–18 inches.

Spreads easily and self-seeds if allowed to mature.

Companion plants: Works well alongside herbs and wildflowers.

Can be ground into a spice (Black Cumin) for cooking.

Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.
