Jewelweed - Yellow Jewelweed (Impatiens pallida) Pale Touch Me Not Pale Jewel Weed Wildflower Flower

Annual

Height 60 cm

Impatiens pallida, also known as Pale Jewelweed, Pale Touch-Me-Not, or Yellow Jewelweed, is a flowering annual plant in the family Balsaminaceae, and is native to Canada and the United States. Jewelweed is an annual, meaning it lives for one year and comes back from the seeds the next year. The seeds grow in pods, which expand in size, building up pressure – until they explode when touched! This is why they are also called 'touch-me-nots'.

Yellow Jewelweed has pale yellow flowers, which distinguishes it from its close relative Spotted Touch-Me-Not (Impatiens capensis), which has bright orange flowers. It was used by Native Americans for medicinal purposes, chiefly as a topical salve. Touch-me-not is a plant many people have interest in because some say it is an antidote to Poison Ivy and Stinging Nettle. This Yellow Impatiens tends to tolerate drier soil than the orange Spotted Touch-Me-Not.
