Aster ‘Phantom of the Opera’ from the Chrisantella series is a stunning ornamental China Aster known for its large, elegant chrysanthemum-style blooms and dramatic color contrast. The fully double flowers feature densely layered petals that create a lush, rounded bloom with a striking two-tone appearance—often deep magenta, crimson, or rose shades surrounding a lighter center. The blooms resemble small chrysanthemums, making them especially prized in cottage gardens and cut flower arrangements.

Plants grow in neat, upright clumps with sturdy stems and lush green foliage. The flowers sit proudly above the foliage, making them excellent for borders, pollinator gardens, and bouquets. These asters bloom from mid-summer through early fall, bringing vibrant color to the garden when many other annuals begin to fade.

This variety is particularly valued by gardeners and florists for its long vase life and impressive bloom size. It also attracts beneficial pollinators such as bees and butterflies, adding ecological value to ornamental plantings.

While grown primarily for ornamental purposes, the species Callistephus chinensis has been historically referenced in traditional herbal practices in parts of Asia, where related asters were used for mild anti-inflammatory and cooling herbal preparations. Growing Information from Seed:

Sow seeds indoors 6–8 weeks before the last expected frost, or direct sow outdoors once the soil has warmed in spring.

Indoor Sowing:

  • Lightly cover with soil and gently firm.
