Asparagus Millennium (Asparagus officinalis) Perennial Edible Non GMO Vegetable

Height: harvest at 6-10 in

Asparagus is a perennial vegetable also known as Garden Asparagus, Sparrow Grass or Asparagus Officinalis

  • Requires full sun.
  • A single row of asparagus requires a bed width of only 18 inches.
  • Asparagus seeds can take 21 days— and even far longer — to germinate. The seedlings require several weeks to reach two inches in height, the size right for transplanting into a growing bed
  • Starting indoors: Plant 1 seed per 5cm (2″) pot, 1cm (½”) deep. Keep in a warm place; can take 2-8 weeks to sprout depending on soil temperature. Transplant when seedlings are 10-12 weeks old and danger of frost has passed.
  • It's not hard to grow asparagus from seed; it just adds an extra year onto the wait period until you can begin to harvest. Plant it once and enjoy this delicious vegetable for many years.
  • Patience…asparagus planted by seed will take approximately 3 years until it is ready to be harvested. And when it is…it is absolutely delicious!
  • Allow the plants to become established for two years before harvesting, and then pick all spears that are at least the diameter of a pencil in spring.
  • asparagus grows up to 6 inches per day in spring - if not harvested daily, you will miss the the brief time when each spear is tall enough to pick, but not so tall that it will become tough and chewy.
  • this perennial will be productive for 15 years or so and is a long term and worthwhile project
  • Seed Count: 6
